Introduction

The field of Man-Machine Interaction (MMI) in the Netherlands is growing and flourishing, both at regular and technical universities, in the knowledge institutes and at universities of applied sciences. Business, industry and governments are also increasingly recognising the economic and social importance of good user – system interaction with (new) products and services. However, the field also shows a large degree of diversity and both research groups and companies involved sometimes have little knowledge of each other or of the research that takes place elsewhere in the Netherlands. There is a need for cooperation and information exchange within the Dutch MMI community.

That is why it was decided in 2011 to set up an MMI Platform, an independent and representative group of people from the business community, universities, colleges and research institutions, which serves as a meeting point for existing knowledge and expertise in the field of research, education and practical application.
